SQUARE METHOD of RATION BALANCING
FOR THE CONCENTRATE MIX FOR BUTCHER CALVES

INSTRUCTIONS: ONCE CATTLE ARE ON FULL FEED
  1. Determine the amount of roughage necessary for the butcher calf or yearling. (4 to 8 Lbs)
  2. Determine the amount of concentrate necessary. (15 to 20 Lbs.)
  3. Determine the protein content of the concentrate and plug that number into the middle of the square. (12% to 13%)
  4. In the upper left corner of the square plug in the supplement type and percent protein.
  5. In the lower left corner plug in the type grain to be fed and the percent protein.
  6. The top right corned of the square will give the parts of the supplement needed in the concentrate.
  7. The bottom right corner of the square will give the parts of the grain needed in the concentrate.
